who are we
Sol is a “one for one” social enterprise sunscreen company that promotes access to sun protection to every single person on earth. For every bottle of sunscreen sold, one is given away that does not have the means or access to buy sunscreen. The company is reef friendly, sourced plastic from compost, and skin tone friendly. Because people in lower socioeconomic brackets have a much poorer chance of surviving skin caser like melanoma, we want to offer a product that will prevent cancer from forming in the first place.
products
We offer three products: SPF 30 sunscreen, SPF 50 sunscreen, and SPF 30 lip balm. We do not believe in pushing products to consumers that are not necessary but would rather teach consumers how to properly apply sunscreen to get the best protection possible.
digital product experience
Part of the product experience is an app that gives reminders on when to reapply, based on time since the last application, SPF, UV index, and skin tone. Each product has a QR code on it that is connected to the app so that the SPF is accurately tracked and traffic is directed to downloading the app. Sol is incorporated into the Apple Health app as well so that this data is logged among all other aspects related to health that are tracked on your phone as well as Apple Watch.
In addition to the QR code to the app, each bottle has the coordinates of where the donated bottle of sunscreen will go. This reassures customers that their purchase will directly impact someone who will benefit from a bottle of sunscreen being sent to them.
branding
The brand voice is honest yet reassuring. We want to be transparent about what the dangers of sun exposure are and be clear about how sunscreen works, as well as best practices for application to get the most effective protection. We also do not want to scare customers, so warmth and friendliness are of utmost importance in the brand tone. As far as imagery, we want to highlight the inclusiveness of the product. Our sunscreen does not leave a white cast and can be worn on all skin tones. We have done extensive research on ingredients that protect your skin as well as the environment, while not leaving a white cast.
conclusion
Sol is all about protecting yourself while not holding yourself back from enjoying the outdoors. We want to lift the veil on the ambiguity in how sunscreen works. Transparency on how to Protect Your Future is the key to Sol sunscreen.
